I am assistant dean with the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. I lead the Barney School’s strategic initiatives focused on enhancing students’ academic experiences by providing a broader range of innovative experiential and project-based learning opportunities that support a high-quality business curriculum. I manage the Barney School’s expansion of interdisciplinary, practice-based learning programs through industry, organizational, and university collaboration in finance and FinTech, medical and pharmaceutical, manufacturing, community, social enterprise, non-profit, and other sectors. I also teach graduate and undergraduate courses in entrepreneurial finance, and I lead the Small Business Practicum experiential learning program in partnership with Upper Albany Main Street, Inc. in Hartford, Connecticut.
I am also a lecturer in finance at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies in New York, NY, where I have also taught strategy in the Executive Masters Degree Program in Strategic Communications. Between 2012 and 2019, I was also professor of practice in finance with the Foisie Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA,, where I was also the director of the Wall Street/FinTech Project Center and of the Pioneer Valley Project Center, and the faculty co-coordinator of the WPI FinTech Collaborative.
As a practitioner-educator, I have delivered applied coursework and team-based, practice-oriented programs in finance, FinTech, strategy, law, and economics at these and other academic institutions.
In 2012, I served in an interim appointment as the president and CEO of the non-profit economic and real estate development firm DevelopSpringfield in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Prior to that, I spent 19 years with MassMutual, where I was most recently a managing director of MassMutual Capital Partners LLC. I was responsible for strategic mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, and other transactions for MassMutual and its affiliated companies. I also served in various other executive roles at MassMutual, including senior vice president & chief operating officer of MassMutual International (and regional executive for Europe & Latin America), vice president of human resources of MassMutual, and second vice president and associate general counsel of MassMutual.
I have served internationally on several corporate and non-profit Boards of Directors, including most recently the Board of a NASDAQ-traded holding company for a federally chartered bank that provides retail and commercial services to businesses and individuals in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
I received my M.B.A. jointly from New York University Stern School of Business, the London School of Economics & Political Science, and the HEC School of Management in Paris as a graduate of TRIUM, my Doctor of Law from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and my B.A. from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.
