About Kevin Sweeney
"My commitment to helping organizations, communities, and learners succeed is grounded in a combination of theory and practical experience as an educator, a practitioner, and a business and community leader."
I have served in a variety of senior executive roles in the financial, academic, legal, and social sectors. As a faculty member with Columbia University, WPI, Babson College, and other institutions, I have also delivered applied coursework and team-based, practice-oriented programs in community engagement, finance, FinTech, strategy, entrepreneurship, law, and economics. And I have provided advisory and consulting services to clients and other stakeholders in all of those disciplines.
In addition to my advisory and community work, I teach and support experiential education innovation at multiple internationally respected universities:
I am the director of strategic partnerships for experiential education with the Sawyer Business School (SBS) at Suffolk University in Boston, MA. I manage the SBS strategic partnership network to expand collaboration with businesses, the social sector, and the public sector in order to support and enhance the School’s broad range of innovative experiential education initiatives.
I am also a lecturer at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies in New York, NY, where I teach finance and strategy for business and professional certificate and M.S. degree programs.
I am a lecturer in the Babson College Entrepreneurship Division as a member of the teaching team of the internationally recognized, experiential, and year-long Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship program.
Finally, I have also served as a full-time faculty member, and I continue to teach as an adjunct professor in finance with the Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA. I was also the director of the WPI Wall Street/FinTech and of the WPI Pioneer Valley project centers and the faculty co-coordinator of the WPI FinTech Collaborative.
I previously served as assistant dean of the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. I was also interim president and CEO of the nonprofit economic and real estate development firm DevelopSpringfield in Springfield, MA. Prior to that, I also spent nearly 20 years in a variety of senior roles with MassMutual Financial Group, where I was most recently a managing director of MassMutual Capital Partners LLC. I led strategic mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, and other transactions worldwide, and I also held other leadership positions (e.g., senior vice president & chief operating officer of MassMutual International). I also have been a member of several corporate and non-profit Boards of Directors globally, including most recently the Board of a federally chartered bank that provides retail and commercial services to businesses and individuals in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
I received my M.B.A. jointly from New York University Stern School of Business, the London School of Economics & Political Science, and the HEC School of Management in Paris as a graduate of TRIUM, my Doctor of Law (J.D.) from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and my B.A. from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.
